Bank of Palestine and the Palestinian international band Le Trio Joubran announced the launch of the first music marathon in Palestine, “Le Trio Joubran Marathon, against breast cancer in Palestine, in cooperation with Palestine Red Crescent in Gaza, and Dunya Women’s Cancer in Ramallah, with contribution of Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), Farouk Systems Inc., and the family of the Palestinian businessman Abdel Mohsin Al-Qattan and Omar and Ghalia Al-Gattan.

 

This announcement took place during a press conference held at Bank of Palestine’s General Management Head Office in Ramallah, in the presence of Mr. Thaer Hamayel, Director of Marketing and Public Relations Department at Bank of Palestine, artist Samir Joubran, the elder brother in Le Trio Joubran band, and Dr. Walid Abu Ras from Health Work Committees, Dr. Khalil Abu Ful from Palestine Red Crescent Society in Gaza Strip, and Dr. Nofouth Maslamani, Director of Dunya Women’s Cancer Center.

 

Mr. Thaer Hamayel expressed his pride for Bank of Palestine’s contribution to this activity. He added that the Bank supports the regional awareness campaigns regarding the importance of early screening for breast cancer. He indicated that the Bank provided its support to this activity due to its social responsibility. Mr. Hamayel added that the Marathon aims to collect the amount of USD1 million; Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) contributed the amount of USD150 thousand over three years; Farouk Systems Inc. also contributed USD150 thousand over same period, and Abdel Mohsin Al-Qattan’s family donated the amount of USD50 thousand. Mr. Hamayel indicated that the Bank employs great efforts to communicate with Palestinians in diaspora and various companies and institutions, in order to encourage them to donate towards the marathon. The Bank will cover thousands of screenings to breast cancer patients, and will allocate an amount to purchase a mobile clinic that will host experts in the detection and treatment of the disease.

 

Mr. Hamayel thanked the companies that contributed to the success of the marathon, and hoped that companies and institutions from the private sector will contribute towards the success of the marathon as part of their social responsibility, in which such humanitarian contributions promote the unity and collaboration within the components of our community.

 

Mr. Samir Joubran expressed his contentment for this marathon. He indicated that this is a major historic event for Le Trio Joubran, under the partnership with Bank of Palestine; he expressed his pleasure that the marathon is held against cancer in Palestine. Joubran added that the marathon will take place on October 26, and will run for 12 continuous hours, with the participation of more than eighty Palestinian artists who work in the fields of poetry, singing, playing instruments, novels and others.

 

Mr. Walid Abu Ras from Health Work Committees praised Bank of Palestine’s efforts towards the eradication of breast cancer; he expressed his hope that the ceremony will be organized in a unique manner promoting Palestine’s outstanding stance against this disease.

 

Dr. Nofouth Maslamani expressed her pride for this collaboration between art and the health and economic sectors towards a unified goal of eradicating breast cancer, which is the second cause of death in Palestine, following lung cancer.  Dr. Maslamani presented a range of statistics that monitor the prevalence of the disease in Palestine; adding that success rate of treatments for cases with early detection is 90%.

 

Mr. Khalil Abu Ful commended Bank of Palestine’s efforts against this disease, and presented some of the difficulties that Gaza Strip face to fight this disease, and statistics related to breast cancer, in addition to the importance of early detection, awareness and the urgent need to conducts the needed tests and operations in Gaza Strip under the limited capabilities, especially that this disease became one of the most common deadly diseases among women.
